TOKYO, May 24: Japan's trade surplus jumped 51.8 per cent from a year earlier to 926.68 billion yen ($7.62 billion) in April on strong exports of cars and steel, the government said on Thursday.
Exports expanded 8.3 per cent to 6.64 trillion yen while imports also rose 3.5 per cent to 5.71 trillion yen, the Japanese finance ministry said.
The figure was below market expectations, as economists had projected an average trade surplus of 957.5 billion yen.—AFP
