TOBA TEK SINGH, May 22: The All-Pakistan Clerks Association continued protest against the misbehaviour of an army major with district education officer (female) for the successive day on Tuesday.
They set up a protest camp outside district education office. APCA leader Rashid Ahmad Chaudhry announced that the protest would continue till the officer was punished.
Maj Ghulam Rasool had forcibly entered the office of DEO Najma Kausar and threatened her with dire consequences when she refused to stop departmental action against his SV teacher wife.
LAWYERS STRIKE: Lawyers continued hunger strike against the suspension of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Tuesday.
Advocates Azizur Rehman and Zahid Husain observed hunger strike.
The lawyers wore black armbands while black flags were hoisted atop bar offices.
At Gojra, Tehsil Bar Association president Akhtar Kahuja, Raghib Shahzad and Chaudhry Jan Muhammad observed hunger strike.
BIRD FLU: The Punjab poultry production director general paid an emergency visit to the district on Tuesday in the wake of reported spread of bird flu.
His staff took blood and stool of birds from different poultry farms and sent to Lahore testing laboratory.
A source said poultry farmers had also been informed about the situation and they have been asked to be alert to face the situation.
Meanwhile, the rate of chicken fell sharply on the rumour of spread of bird flu.
REGISTERATION: Nazim Chaudhry Abdul Sattar has assured that the district government will send a proposal to the Punjab government to simply the procedure for birth registration.
He was told at a seminar on ‘Child protection and role of elected representatives’ on Tuesday that parents took least interest in registering their children with Nadra due to procedural difficulties.
The nazim said child labour was no doubt a big problem in the country which could only be eliminated with the cooperation of parents with the government and NGOs.
District Child Rights Committee coordinator Advocate Mehr Rab Nawaz said the child labour would continue till the eradication of poverty.
Punjab Child Rights Protection manager Irfan Raza also spoke on the occasion.
LIQUOR RECOVERED: The CIA staff recovered 119 bottles of imported liquor from a house in Raja Park and arrested alleged bootleggers Arshad, Allah Ditta and Ammar on Tuesday.
The CIA staff claimed that the bootleggers were using a private ambulance for the purpose.
Allah Ditta and Arshad belonged to Lodhran district while Ammar was a resident of Raja Park.
