MANSEHRA, May 22: Cases of gastroenteritis were on the rise in Mansehra and over 70 children were being admitted daily to the children’s ward of the district headquarters hospital alone, official sources told Dawn on Tuesday on condition of anonymity.

Official figures obtained from the DHQ hospital revealed that the disease had hit not only Mansehra but also other quake-devastated areas.

The record of male and female wards of the hospital also paints a bleak picture as a number of adult patients have been admitted to male and female wards of the hospital.

Because of the massive influx of children suffering from the disease, there is an acute shortage of beds in the hospital and, in order to cope with the situation, the doctors and hospital management have been forced to accommodate two to three child patients on a single bed.

The hospital sources said that in May, the number of cases had drastically gone up in comparison with April when only 277 such cases had been brought to the children ward of the hospital.
