SYDNEY, May 21: Cricket Australia (CA) is set to appoint a Kiwi to one of the country's most senior coaching positions. John Wright, former New Zealand opener and one-time coach of India, is understood to have got job as head coach at centre of excellence, taking over from new team coach Tim Nielsen. It will mean Wright taking helm of Australia ‘A’.

He is late entrant in race for centre’s coaching. Earlier CA narrowed field down to Trevor Bayliss and Tim Coyle. Bayliss, ruled himself out, while Coyle was overlooked.

Wright has been linked to several possible international coaching positions this year. He flew to Pakistan to meet PCB officials before World Cup, which led to speculation he might succeed late Bob Woolmer.—Agencies
