Two rapists to be hanged today

GUJRANWALA, May 14: Two condemned prisoners involved in gang-rape would be hanged on Tuesday (today) as an anti-terrorism court issued their death warrant on Monday.

Convicts Zulfiqar and Arif raped ‘K’ of Model Town about two years ago. They were tried under Hudood laws and handed down death sentence. The Lahore High Court and the Supreme Court upheld the decision of the lower court, while the president rejected their clemency appeal.

It is learnt that the complainant woman died a few months ago and her husband Akram appeared before court and pleaded that the deceased had pardoned them. But the court rejected his plea.

KILLED: An alleged proclaimed offender who escaped from a moving prisoners wagon by breaking its floor about a month ago and was killed in an encounter near Hafizabad on Sunday night was wanted in dozens of cases of murder, dacoity, robbery, encounters, kidnap for ransom and other heinous crime.

This was stated by DIG Saud Aziz at a briefing in his office here on Monday.

He said Nazir alias Bago planned to kill lawyer Abid Saqi of Lahore. He broke the legs of Advocate Qamar Javed on pursuing a case against him a few days ago.

He said police would continue crackdown on criminals throughout the region without any fear and favour.
