MULTAN, May 12: Anjuman Mazareen Punjab (AMP) and Labour Party Pakistan (LPP) activists demanded on Saturday that the government arrest the killers of tenant Zafar Iqbal in seven days and withdraw cases against tenants.

AMP General Secretary Abdul Sattar and LPP General Secretary Farooq Tariq said this while addressing tenants at Bael Gunj, Pakpattan, who had come to mourn the death of Iqbal.

“Mazareen from all over Punjab will come to roads if our demands are not accepted,” said Sattar.

Iqbal was allegedly killed by the staff of the Army Welfare Trust Farm.

A tenant, Muhammad Tufail Cheema, was also allegedly killed by the farm employees four years ago, said a speaker, adding that his killers had not been punished.

Tenants’ leader Bashir Sajid said that their water channels had been closed for the last few days and all the tenants would open the water supply through force. He said that Mazareen would not hesitate to offer sacrifices to protect their rights.

Tariq pledged his support to tenants, saying the LPP would stage protests in Lahore, Islamabad and other cities if their demands were not accepted.

The gathering also demanded the withdrawal of Rangers from Parveenabad farm in Deepalpur and Bael Gunj farm in Pakpattan.
