Published May 11, 2007

SYDNEY, May 10: Cricket Australia (CA) said on Thursday it would formally recognise the 139th anniversary of its first-ever touring side, the indigenous team that travelled to England in 1868.

CA, state and territory associations will fly the Aboriginal flag at their offices or grounds to honour the squad that arrived in England on May 13, 1868.

As a part of the commemoration, CA’s National Indigenous Development Squad will gather in Darwin next week for a week-long training camp that will include matches against the national sides from Fiji and Papua New Guinea.

The team played 47 matches in England between May and October 1868, winning 14 games, losing 14 and drawing 19.—AFP
