KARACHI, May 10: The Malir Town nazim survived an attempt on his life on Thursday when his police guards arrested two of the four attackers. A press release issued by the Malir Town administration said that four men on two motorcycles, brandishing TT pistols, entered the lane of the town nazim’s residence at around 10:30am as the nazim came out of his house to go to work.

It said the attackers, who allegedly belonged to the Sunni Tehreek, rode away when the police guards of the nazim challenged them.

The press release said that the policemen chased the attackers and arrested two of them after a shootout near Mohammedi Dera. The arrested suspects were identified as Mohammed Waseem, son of Ghulam Rasool, and Waseem Ahmed, son of Abdul Karim, it said.

The police also seized two unlicensed pistols and a Honda 70 (DU-6932). The suspects are residents of Shah Faisal Colony and one of them had earlier been arrested in a case registered at the Al-Fallah police station.
