HYDERABAD, May 8: The director of excise and taxation department on Tuesday advised people to get their vehicles registered by May 15 and remove tinted glasses as the department was planning to launch a campaign against unregistered vehicles after the stipulated period, said an official handout.

He said that people who had open transfer letters should get their vehicles transferred to their names, fancy number plates and personal name plates should be removed or certificates should be obtained from the department after paying fees.

He advised people to remove blue and red lights and urged them to get computerised documents and number plates. The department would impound vehicles if taxes and other outstanding dues were not paid before the stipulated period, he warned.

The official directed the showroom owners and dealers to obtain trade certificates and asked junk dealers to obtain an NoC from the motor registration authority and ACLC before disposing of vehicles.

He said that they had also been asked to submit a report on monthly basis to the motor registration authority. The dealers of "rent a motorcycle" and "rent a car" must get themselves registered with the department, he said.

He said that the department had introduced one-window scheme for the manufactures of "Qing Qi" motorcycle rickshaws to get their business registered.

The official also asked the government departments to obtain computerised boxes and number plates. He had learnt that the vehicles meant for agriculture purposes were being used for commercial purposes for a rent of Rs800 to Rs2,500 an hour, which was illegal, he said and urged the owners of cranes, dumpers, excavators etc to get their machines registered by May 15.
