ISLAMABAD, May 3: A man, who helped the capital police to arrest a thief, has alleged that the accused would be released because he committed crimes in connivance with some policemen.

Mohammad Younis, an official of the Pakistan Engineering Council, told this scribe that the police have declared the accused a labourer and they would let him go free. He had lodged a complaint with the Aabpara police saying that a man deprived him of his wallet carrying cash, ATM, CNIC and employment cards along with some other documents last week.

Being suspicious of a person, Mr Younis started following him. After few days of regular checking, he reportedly found that a person was present at the bus stop near the Federal Government Services Hospital during rush hours.

“He would rush to the approaching vehicles along with other passengers and then would come back. He repeated it every time but never embarked on a vehicle,” Mr Younis said.

On May 2, after spotting the suspicious man at the same point, he called the police, however, two policemen came to rescue the man saying that the accused was not involved in any criminal activities and should not be arrested.

“But when I insisted, he was taken to the police station where I narrated the entire story to the officers,” he added. Interestingly, a car would remain parked nearby the accused. “When he would deprive passengers of their wallets in a skillful way, two persons in plain clothes, who even showed their ID cards with pictures in uniforms, would come to him from the nearby car,” Mr Younis claimed.

Meanwhile, Aabpara police registered a case against the accused and produced him before a court which granted a two-day remand of the accused.—Staff Reporter
