LANDI KOTAL (Khyber Agency), May 2: The entire area of the tehsil remained without electricity for nearly 20 hours on Wednesday after protesting residents of Jamrud put an iron chain on the main power supply line on Tuesday night causing a short-circuit.

Sources said that the angry people had caused the short-circuit after they noted that electricity was being supplied to others areas while their localities continued to suffer loadshedding.

The residents blocked the main Peshawar-Torkhum road on Tuesday and Wednesday in protest against the unannounced loadshedding in their area. The road was later cleared by the local authorities with the assistance of elders of the area.

Landi Kotal residents spent a sleepless night on Tuesday after electricity was cut off at around 8pm. The Tribal Areas Electricity Supply Corporation was able to restore the supply only on Wednesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Loe Shalman residents complained about prolonged power shutdown in their area. Ghunda Khel residents told Dawn that unannounced loadshedding and low-voltage had made their life miserable, adding that a large number of electric appliances had been damaged due to low-voltage.—Correspondent
