PESHAWAR, April 30: A meeting of the special committee on distribution of scholarships among unemployed graduates and senior citizens was held here on Monday.

NWFP Minister for Zakat, Ushr and Social Welfare Hafiz Hashmat Khan presided over the meeting.

The meeting expressed satisfaction over the performance of the committee made so far and thanked the NWFP chief minister for giving permission to keep the programme intact and enhance the scholarship amount up to Rs2,000.

The minister claimed that the MMA government had given unprecedented relief to senior citizens and unemployed graduates of the province.

He directed the quarters concerned that the students having passed Dars-i-Nizami Shahdat Almia examination would be benefited from the programme equally.

He said that students having passed their MA and MSc degrees from the Allama Iqbal Open University exams in the 2006 year were also entitled for the scholarship. Social Welfare secretary Sultan Mehmood Khattak and Social Welfare director Fakhrul Islam attended the meeting.—APP
