Warrants for Qazi’s arrest

Published April 28, 2007

GUJRANWALA, April 27: A local court issued non-bail able arrest warrants for 10 leaders of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA), including Qazi Husain Ahmad, and ordered police to produce them in court on May 27.

Kotwali Police Station registered cases against the MMA leaders on September 30, 2006, on the occasion of an anti-government protest drive by the religious alliance.

Police insisted that MMA leaders be declared proclaimed offenders but Special Judicial Magistrate Sheikh Ghulam Mustafa turned down their plea and said accused were present in the country delivering speeches and statements. The court issued warrants for Qazi Husain Ahmad, MMA Punjab General Secretary Azher Iqbal Hasan, Qazi Hamidullah, Bilal Qudret Butt, Saeed Khokher, Furqan Butt, Hafiz Hamidud Din Awan, Azher Khan, Saleem Lone and Awais Ayub Sheikh.
