PESHAWAR, April 27: Dozens of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal activists on Friday took out a procession to condemn the rocket attack on the house of their leader, Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
The protesters gathered near the Madni Masjid in Namak Mandi after Friday prayers and marched towards the Shoba Chowk.
Holding banners and placards, they raised slogans against the federal government and the law-enforcement agencies for their “sabotage activities” in the NWFP. Many held banners and placards inscribed with slogans against President Gen Pervez Musharraf. At the Shoba Chowk the rally turned into a demonstration which was addressed by provincial Minister for Zakat and Ushr Hafiz Hashmat, Minister for Auqaf Amanullah Haqqani, Information Minister Asif Iqbal Daudzai, MNA Fayazur Rehman Alvi and MMA district president Hakim Abdul Waheed.
They claimed that the federal government was responsible for “sabotage activities” in the NWFP which were aimed at defaming and maligning the MMA government.
They lambasted the federal government for its “unrealistic and short-sighted policies which had brought the country to the brink of destruction.”
It was crystal clear that the MMA government in the NWFP would win the coming elections, they claimed.
The federal government was against the MMA government since day one. That was why it was indulging in wrongdoing in the province.
