KARACHI, April 26: Amendments to the existing drug rules will be made soon to make them more effective against fake drugs dealers in the province.

This was stated by Sindh Health Minister Syed Sardar Ahmad on Thursday, during a meeting with the French consul-general, Pierre Seillan, at the Sindh Secretariat.

Mr Ahmad said that the government would not allow the business of fake drugs in the province and that was why, among other measures, changes were introduced in the relevant rules and provision of quality drugs would also be ensured.

The minister gave some briefs to the visiting envoy of various healthcare projects being run in collaboration with the foreign donor agencies. He hoped that polio would shortly be eradicated from the province.

GASTRO CASES: The health minister has asked all EDOs (health) to report to the provincial health department about the new cases of gastroenteritis on a daily basis so that measures could be initiated promptly.

Taking a view of the surge in the gastro cases in the interior of Sindh, the minister also asked senior health officials in the districts to ensure availability of related medicines in full range at all the government hospitals.
