DADU, April 25: Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz Chairman Bashir Khan Qureshi appealed to the nationalist leaders and groups to join his party at the 12th death anniversary of the founder of Jeay Sindh Tehrik late G. M. Syed in Sann on Wednesday.

Two separate programmes were held near G M Syed’s grave due to differences between JSQM leaders.

Addressing the main programme, Mr Qureshi said that elections for the party’s central body would be held on Jan 17 when the present body’s tenure came to an end. Many nationalist leaders including Dr Safdar Sarki had been picked by agencies and their whereabouts were still not known, he said.

He criticised his former colleagues Abdul Wahid Arisar and Serai Qurban Khuhawar and alleged that they were trying to divide the party.

The other JSQM group led by Abdul Wahid Arisar held their programme on the west side of the grave. Mr Arisar called for sending back all the illegal immigrants and an end to issuance of identity cards to them.

He demanded that the government should shelve Kalabagh, Bhasha and other dams and provide water under the 1945 agreement. The islands of Karachi were property of Sindh, he said and demanded that the people who had been displaced should be resettled at the islands.

Mr Arisar opposed the privatisation of industries in Sindh and said that the organising committee was authorized to hold elections and gatherings, hence all the organisers were supporting him.

Serai Qurban Khuhawar said that two important institutions, press and judiciary, were not free hence there was no check and balance.

The party’s chief organiser Shafi Karnani said that the groupings had badly affected the party. He vowed to reorganise the party and continue to work for Sindhu Desh. Riaz Chandio, Mir Alam Mari also spoke.

The family of late GM Syed also organised programmes at their residence. G M Syed’s grandson and chairman of the Sindh United Party Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah said that late Syed always raised voice for the rights of Sindh and sacrified his life for cause.

A musical programme and Adabi conference were also held at the residence of G M Syed preceded by Quran khwani and distribution of food among the participants.
