GUJRANWALA, April 20: The lawyer presenting Sibtul Hasan, alias Double Shah, told the Anti-Terrorism Court judge on Friday that police had seized Rs700 million from the house of an agent of Double Shah in Model Town, Sialkot.

He said the district police officer was also present when police had seized the sum and wanted to know, through the court, whether police had recorded the seizure in the official recovery sheet.

Police produced Shah in the court on Friday and got his eight-day remand.

Double Shah hit the headlines for his scheme offering a 100-per cent profit in 70 days on sums deposited with him. Police arrested him on April 13 for a number of offences.

Defence council M Azhar alleged police had fabricated terror offences against his client and that even though cases had been registered in Wazirabad Sadar police station, Double Shah had been detained in Gujranwala Model police station. He said his relatives and friends had been denied meeting him. He asked the court to order medical examination of the accused as he was suffering from Hepatitis C.

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) deputy director Syed Husain Shah told reporters that at least five agencies, including NAB and police, were interrogating the accused.

He hinted that NAB would take him into custody for 90 days for investigation after police remand expired. He said Shah’s 25 bank accounts and other assets had been frozen. He said depositors were still reluctant to submit their claims on a form with police.
