MIANWALI, April 20: A butcher has sold out the meat of a dead camel to two restaurants only to earn few bucks at the expense of the public health.

Traders Association president Mazhar Khan disclosed this while talking to reporters here on Friday.

He claimed that restaurants at the General Bus Stand and the Truck Adda had purchased the meat from butcher Ziaullah of Chah Miana at Rs30 per kilo. He alleged that Sultan alias Mullah, the owner of Liaquat Hotel, had purchased 200 kilogramme meat while a “samosa” shop owner 80 kilogramme meat.

When contacted, Sultan said that his son Suleman had bought the meat but he threw some 80 kilogramme meat into the Thal Canal immediately after he came to know about the actual situation. He, however, claimed that he did not serve the affected meat to his customers.

Another restaurant owner Jamil Nasir made a clean breast before journalists of purchasing about 50 kilogrammes of meat at the rate of Rs30 a kilo. He also claimed that he did not use the meat when the fact revealed to him.

The local police said that a case had been registered while raids were on for the arrest of the butcher and his accomplices.

Reports said that cart driver Sher Muhammad of Chah Miana village had thrown away the dead body of his camel outside the village on Thursday. Ziaullah, butcher of the same village, along with his accomplices removed the body sometime during the night and then sold its meat to the two restaurants on Friday.
