QUETTA, April 17: A senior officer of the Quetta Electric Supply Company (Qesco) was injured when two unidentified men opened fire on him. Two other people were also injured in the incident.

According to eyewitnesses, two armed men who were on a motorcycle opened fire on the superintendent engineer of Qesco, Mehar Khan, injuring him and his driver, Abdul Majid, when his official vehicle stopped near an office in Jinnah town on Tuesday morning. A passerby, Abdul Rahim, was also injured in the incident.

Mr Mehar and his driver were admitted to the Combined Military Hospital whereas the passerby was admitted to the Civil Hospital.

According to family sources of the injured Qesco official, Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani asked the provincial police officer to arrest the miscreants as soon as possible as the incident was serious in view of the attack in broad daylight.

Pakistan Wapda Hydroelectric central labour union in a statement, while condemning the attack, said the provincial cabinet of the union in an urgent meeting in the Khurshid Labour Hall expressed concern over the incident.
