Peace body official shot dead

SHEIKHUPURA, April 16: A member of the Shia-Sunni Divisional Peace Committee was shot dead while his colleague was injured seriously by assailants on GT Road in Imamia Colony on Monday.

According to reports reaching here, Syed Akhter Shah and Rauf Shah were on their way home by their motorcycle after offering prayers in Imamia Mosque. Near the main bazaar, some unidentified men opened fire on them, killing Akhtar Shah instantly and injuring seriously Rauf Shah.

It was still not ascertained whether the incident was an outcome of sectarianism or some enmity.

Ferozewala police are going into the matter.

THREE SLAIN: Three family members and their driver were ambushed and killed while another woman was injured seriously near Tehkariwala on Sharaqpur-Jaranwala Road on Monday.

Reports said that the four family members were returning to their village by their car after appearing before a court in Ferozewala.

Near Tehkariwala, their opponents opened fire on them, killing instantly Razia Bibi, Farzana Bibi, their brother Javed and driver Saeed and injuring Tahira Bibi seriously. The injured was rushed to a hospital.

The incident was said to be an outcome of a land dispute between the deceased family members and the accused party, including Ashiq, Ghulam Rasool and Ashraf.

Sharaqpur police are looking into the matter.
