Bridge at Kotri demanded

Published April 15, 2007

HYDERABAD, April 14: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has been urged to allocate special funds in the upcoming budget for the construction of a new bridge on the river Indus at Kotri.

The appeal was made in a communication address to the PM by the MNA from Jamshoro district, Nawab Abdul Ghani Talpur.

Informing on the condition of old bridge, he said it being 100 years old has outlived its life and is now in a dilapidated condition which could lead to any major incident. Now, it has become necessary to build a new bridge, Talpur added.

He said the chairman National Assembly Standing Committee on Railways had termed the bridge dangerous for traffic in their report thus recommending construction of a new bridge.

He requested the PM to allocate funds for the construction of an overhead bridge at the telegraph railway crossing, as well. It is an important traffic point from wherein hundreds of loaded trucks pass, he said.
