LAYYAH, April 13: No casualty or injury to any passenger was reported as six of 10 coaches of Mahar Express derailed near here in the wee hours of Friday. The Multan-bound Mahar Express from Rawalpindi was about to reach the local railway station when its coaches derailed. According to eyewitnesses, one of the coaches jumped from the track and five behind it derailed one by one. Passengers rushed out of the coaches safely.

The passengers were shifted to the remaining coaches of the train which left for Multan after a delay of two hours.

Multan deputy divisional superintendent Ayaz Awan said apparently the accident was caused due to a sudden application of brakes by the driver. However, its real cause could only be determined after an inquiry, he said.
