SWABI, April 13: Students of the Government High School, Topi demanded facilities for their educational institution, including furniture and toilets, on a priority basis. Students discussed their problems while participating in a function --Project Citizen Pakistan -- organised by the Centre for Civic Education on Friday.

Student leaders said that over the years the number of students had increased in the educational institution whereas corresponding facilities had not been expanded by the authorities concerned owing to their lack of planning and provision of funds.

The students complained that lack of toilets and lack of furniture not only affected their studies but also their health and should be solved on priority basis.

Executive Director of the Centre for Civic Education Zafarullah Khan, two civic educators from the United States, Ed Morgan and David Hoffman, principal of the school Hanifullah, District Naib Nazim Saleem Khan and teachers watched the students’ presentations.

Zafarullah Khan said that ‘Project Citizen Pakistan’ is a civic educational programme to promote knowledge and skills.

Ed Morgan and David Hoffman said that Project Citizen was being implemented in 60 countries. They said students and communities face almost similar problems in several countries of the world.

They said that students should also prepare an estimated budget for solution of their problems, and added that equipped with facts and figures the students could convince the government in a better way to solve the problems of their community.
