ISLAMABAD: A senior Commander of United States army has supported President Pervez Musharraf’s proposal to jointly fight against Taliban and Al Qaeda to restore peace and stability in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Inter-Services Public Relations Director-General Maj-Gen Wahid Arshad here on Thursday, US Army Central’s Deputy Commander Maj-Gen Dennis Hardy said: “I agree with President Musharraf that the US forces, Pakistan and Afghanistan should put up a joint struggle against Taliban and Al Qaeda.”

The Kuwait-based US army official said the Land Forces Symposium would help finalise a new strategy to jointly fight the common enemy.

Responding to a question, he said Pakistan had played an effective role in the war on terror and it was providing all possible support to the international coalition.

“We have to offer long-term solutions for various international disputes,” he said in reply to a question.

He said the 35-nation coalition was trying to restore peace and stability in Afghanistan.

He alleged that women and children were being used by Taliban and Al Qaeda as suicide bombers.
