KOHAT, April 11: Not a single filtration plant has been installed in the district under the “Clean Drinking Water for All” programme which was launched in 2001, it is learnt. The Rs10 billion programme was approved at the union council level by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz in 2005.

District officers responsible for identification of sites for the plants have repeatedly failed to fill the required forms correctly as asked by the federal government.

The project had earlier been delayed for one year after the government decided to involve the country’s 6,035 union council nazims in identification of sites. The government had sought the details by June last. The project was to be completed in the entire country in 2009 but the deadline was later revised to 2007.

The district government submitted details of sites in 26 union councils out of 32 union councils to the provincial government in June last but it did not mention alternative sites.

The provincial government had raised objections to the sites proposed by the district government, said Wahid Ullah Khattak, executive director finance, told Dawn on Wednesday.

Due to the delay in installing the filtration plants, the cost of the project is likely to go up.
