ATTOCK, April 10: Judges across the country should observe complete strike either on Friday or any other day to support the lawyers’ protest against the “suspension” of Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry that is being seen as “an insult to the entire judiciary”.

This was stated by former Attock bar president and senior lawyer Sheikh Ehsanuddin advocate while talking to this reporter on Tuesday.

Mr Ehsan said the judiciary should also express solidarity with the lawyers’ community that was struggling in its capacity against “the blow to the whole legal system”.

He paid rich tributes to those judges who had tendered their resignations in protest after President Pervez Musharraf moved a reference against the CJ over allegations of “misuse of authority”.

The advocate called upon all the political parties to draw up a common strategy to face the situation. He vowed that the lawyers would continue their protest as they had a single-point agenda of getting the chief justice reinstated.

He said the presidential reference against Mr Chaudhry was a futile exercise that had triggered a crisis in the country, therefore, it must be withdrawn immediately.

Mr Ehsan also expressed concern over the alleged attempts by the government to create a divide among the lawyers’ community.

He said the District Bar Association, Attock, would observe two-day strike on Thursday and Friday in connection with the ongoing protest.

Reshuffle in police: The Attock police chief has reshuffled station house officers (SHO) of three police stations in the district, it has been learnt.

Sources said SHO Pindigheb Inspector Saad Anwar was transferred to district Police Lines and he was replaced by the in charge of Police Post Khor, sub-inspector Mohammad Khan.

SHO Basal inspector Shaukat Shah was transferred and posted at SHO Saddar Attock in place of Inspector Abid Khan who went on long leave.

Similarly, inspector Chaudhry Mehmood was appointed the new SHO Basal police station.

Meanwhile, the Central Police Office in Lahore has transferred DSP Headquarters Attock Maqsood Gondal as DSP Patrolling Posts, a position that was lying vacant after the retirement of DSP Syed Farid Shah.
