SIALKOT, April 10: Saddar police on Tuesday registered a case against its four officials, including a sub-inspector, for allegedly killing a murder suspect in custody.

Reports said some officials of Sialkot Saddar police station made a call on the cell phone of Muhammad Hafeez Gujjar of Mandaal Kothey, asking him to visit Sialkot Cantt police station as they had an urgent piece of work with him. When Hafeez reached there, the officials took him to Sialkot Saddar police station and allegedly tortured him. As a result of which he fell unconscious. Hafeez died on way to Allama Iqbal Memorial DHQ Hospital.

Later, the police handed over the body to his heirs who staged a demonstration, blocked traffic for about half an hour and demanded immediate arrest of the accused policemen. The grieved family has announced a protest rally on Wednesday (today) on the eve of President Gen Pervez Musharraf’s visit to Sialkot Cantt. — Correspondent
