Russian PM due tomorrow

ISLAMABAD, April 9: Russian Prime Minister Mikhail E. Fradkov will be visiting Pakistan from April 11-13 and a number of bilateral agreements in diverse areas would be initialled during his stay in the capital.

This was announced by Foreign Office Spokesperson Tasnim Aslam at the weekly briefing on Monday.

“The focus of the visit would be on bilateral relations with emphasis on ways and means to enhance economic cooperation,” she said.

“A number of agreements are expected to be signed during the visit relating to railways, narcotics control and exchanges in cultural, educational, sports and scientific fields,” Ms Aslam said.

She said the two sides were also likely to announce the reactivation of the Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation.

Mr Fradkov will be the first prime minister of the Russian Federation to visit Pakistan. Earlier, premier Alexey Kosygin visited Pakistan in May 1969 as foreign minister of the Soviet Union.—QA
