ISLAMABAD, April 8: Iran on Sunday agreed to supply 1,000MW electricity to Pakistan through a transmission line to be constructed on priority.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Minister for Water and Power Liaquat Ali Jatoi and Iranian Minister for Energy in Tehran, a fax message received here said. Both the countries also agreed to exchange technical know-how in manufacturing of 220-KV transformers and specially help Pakistan Heavy Electric Complex (HEC) for manufacturing of transformers, Mr Jatoi told media at the signing ceremony.

Later, he called on the first Vice-President of Iran, Pervez Davoudi.

They discussed bilateral cooperation in water and power sectors.

Mr Davoudi assured Mr Jatoi of providing every support and assistance to Pakistan in the water and power sectors.

The minister briefed the vice-president on his visits to various companies in Tehran undertaking mega and medium size dams and hydropower projects.

He invited private and public sector companies to participate in power and water sectors in Pakistan.

The meeting agreed to form working groups in water and energy sectors for follow up of the implementation of the decisions which would go a long way to strengthen bilateral ties.—APP
