GUJRANWALA, April 7: Two accused, who escaped from the police custody earlier in the day, were killed in an encounter at a police picket in Bulleywala village near Cantonment here on Saturday.

Police claimed that constable Zaigham also sustained bullet wounds.

They said that accused Riaz of Gujranwala and Ghulam Murtza of Lahore were being escorted to recover looted goods on their identification. Near Sindnan village, about half a dozen car riders intercepted the police vehicle and got their accomplices freed at gunpoint.

On receiving information, CPO Khadim Hussain Bhatti and other senior officers rushed to the spot and got arrested sub-inspector Manzoor Hussain, head-constable Ameer Hussain and constable Amer Shahzad.

Police said that the deceased accused had looted members of a marriage party and several houses in Kotli Mughlan some one-month back. They were also wanted in some 20 cases of dacoity, robbery and other heinous crimes. — Correspondent
