LAHORE, April 4: A delegation of US Congressmen met PPP information secretary Sherry Rehman and Senator Enver Baig in Islamabad on Tuesday and discussed the current political situation in Pakistan.

The Congressmen, who had earlier made a telephonic contact with Benazir Bhutto in New York, asked the PPP leaders about steps needed for free and fair election. Ms Sherry and Senator Baig apprised the Congressmen of their party’s point of view.

The PPP has already submitted a 36-point document to the chief election commissioner, enlisting measures needed to hold open and honest elections. The party wants the elections held under the supervision of an interim government of national consensus.

The Congressmen asked some questions about the Charter of Democracy signed by parties in the ARD at a meeting held in London in July last year.
