Two lawyers threaten suicide

RAHIM YAR KHAN, April 3: Two local lawyers went overboard during the legal community’s anti-government protest on Tuesday when they threatened to commit suicide if the suspended chief justice was not restored.

Advocates Allama Khalid Mahmood and Karimullah Karoi made the announcements during the district bar’s protest rally here at the Railway Chowk. They pledged to take the extreme step at the same venue, Railway Chowk, but stopped short of giving any time.

Meanwhile, assistant district public prosecutor Salimulla Khan Jatoi resigned in protest against the presidential action against the chief justice.

Similarly, district council’s lawyer Mumtaz Mustafa refused to plead official cases.

Reports from Punjab of Tuesday suggested that lawyers boycotted courts and took out processions in almost all districts and tehsils. Women lawyers also joined the protest. — Correspondent
