TANK: The district administration of Tank entered into an agreement with the Mehsud and Bhittani tribes on Monday to restore peace in the area. The authorities had convened a jirga of the tribes, which was attended by District Coordination Officer Syed Mohsin Shah, Dera Ismail Khan Range Police chief Zulfiqar Cheema, Senator Salih Shah, South Waziristan MNA Maulana Mirajuddin and others.

DIG Cheema urged the tribesmen to join hands with the administration to bring peace to the area and flush out the elements which had attacked security forces and government installations.

Under the agreement, the tribesmen would protect educational institutions and business activities, and support the administration’s drive to ban display of weapons in the bazaars.

The jirga assured the government that armed groups would not be allowed to move or open offices in the district and agreed that those who provided shelter to the elements involved in the recent clashes with the security forces would face legal action.

Homes of the collaborators of the miscreants would also be demolished.
