BADIN, March 31: A large number of villagers including women, many of them carrying sticks and axes, attacked a police party on Friday and freed two men held on charges of robbery. The villagers claimed that the police did not observe the decency of women folk which invited people’s reaction.

According to reports, on a complaint of Karim Bux Jatt, an FIR under section 17/3 was registered against Ghulam Hussain and Shabbir and some unidentified persons for snatching motorcycle and cash Rs15,000 at Golarchi police station.

The investigation police party led by ASI Ashiq Memon, ASI Ghulam Hussain along with police personnel Mir Mohammad, Manjhi and ten others raided village Chak 10 of Shaheed Fazil Rahu taluka.

The police arrested Shabbir and Ghulam Hussain, who were allegedly involved in the robbery.

Meanwhile, a group of people surrounded the police party which had detained the two. Later, a large number of men and women also joined the siege and attacked the party with axes and sticks as a result of which two ASIs and two constables Mir Mohammad and Manjhi sustained injuries. The villagers managed to free the detained Ghulam Hussain and Shabbir.

The injured were removed to Golarchi hospital and the police have registered an FIR under section 324, 353, 114, 337A-1, 147, 148, 149 against 100 people including 30 women. No arrest was reported till the filing of this report. However, police were raiding various spots.
