PESHAWAR, March 31: A delegation from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of Germany, led by the head of its Asian division, Dr Klaus Manderla, called on the Vice-Chancellor of Peshawar University, Prof Dr Haroon Rashid, and discussed issues of mutual interest with special reference to education and research here on Friday.

The academics agreed to strengthen academic links between their two countries for the uplift and transfer of education in order to ensure quality teaching in days to come.

The vice-chancellor informed the delegation that 104,000 students were presently enrolled in the 42 departments of Peshawar University.

He also informed that its campus was the only university campus in the county where education from nursery to PhD was being provided.

It was also agreed at the meeting that cordial relations between the two institutions would be further strengthened and Memorandums of Understanding would be signed to enhance cooperation in the academic sector.

The German delegation was told that the University of Peshawar has given birth to three other universities — the University of Engineering and Technology, the Agricultural University and the Khyber Medical University.

While sharing his views about the institution, Dr Klaus Manderla lauded the services of the University of Peshawar in the field of education and research and expressed the hope that it would be further improved in the future.
