PESHAWAR, March 31: National Reconstruction Bureau member Dr Naeem-ul-Haq has said 700,000 volunteers from across the country are working in the various Citizen Community Boards (CCBs).

During his visit to different districts of the NWFP on Saturday, he told journalists that the CCBs had raised Rs3 billion as their share under various development schemes. He said people’s participation in the community boards reflected the success of the devolution of power plan.

He said the development schemes launched by the CCBs seemed to be popular as the number of volunteers was increasing.

Dr Haq said a Canadian organisation — namely, the Communication for Effective Social Services Delivery — had provided funds for schemes of the community boards. He said workshops and seminars had been held to inform people about the Local Government Ordinance and enhance their participation in the community boards’ schemes.

The NRB member said that in areas lacking health facilities, the community boards would launch health-related schemes. He said 33 per cent female participation in the community boards was encouraging, adding that separate community boards had also been set up for redressing women’s problems.—APP
