HYDERABAD, March 29: Lawyers boycotted courts for two hours on Thursday across the province in protest against the ‘suspension’ of Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry. Many claimed that government officials in black coats instead of lawyers attended the chief minister’s lawyers’ convention in Hyderabad.

In Hyderabad, over a dozen lawyers observed a token hunger strike outside the judicial complex. Rafique Ahmed, Nisar Durrani, Mohammad Hassan Leghari, Ms Allah Bachai and Ibrahim Naqshbandi among others sat at the camp.

The leaders of Sindh Bar Council, High Court and District Bar Associations, Qazi Abdul Sattar, Fazal Qadir Memon, Allah Bachayo Soomro and Abdul Aziz Shaikh visited the hunger strikers camp and garlanded the strikers.

KHAIRPUR: People’s Lawyers’ Forum (PLF) President Liaquat Shar, Abdul Qayoom Shaikh and Pir Bachal Shah Jilani among others observed hunger strike under the aegis of DBA and PLF outside the sessions court building. The lawyers had also boycotted court proceedings since 12 noon.

The leaders condemned the Sindh chief minister’s remarks about non-functional chief justice and said that they were tantamount to contempt of court.

They said that the CM’s lawyers' convention in Hyderabad was attended by government deputy attorney general, district attorney general and government officials.

MIRPURKHAS: DBA members boycotted court proceedings after 10am while lawyers Mohammad Naeem Shaikh, Muneer Hussain Leghari, Khan Mohammad Panhwar and Abdul Nabi Durrani observed token hunger strike outside the bar room. DBA President Salahuddin Panhwar said that their protest would continue till the reinstatement of Justice Iftikhar.

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: Lawyers in Naushahro Feroze, Moro, Kandiaro and Bhirya town staged rallies and boycotted court proceedings.

Lawyers in Naushahro Feroze led by member of Sindh Bar Council G. M. Abbasi and DBA President Arbab Ali Chandio started their march from DBA office and ended it at the press club where they staged a demonstration.

The lawyers also set up a hunger strike camp in the district court building and observed token hunger strike.

JACOBABAD: Lawyers boycotted court proceedings from 10.30 am to 11.30 am and observed token hunger strike outside the DBA hall.

More than a dozen lawyers including Haji Anwar Ali Jakhrani, Ahmed Bux Ansari, Ghulam Ali Rind, Fayaz Ahmed Memon, Bilawal Buriro, Ghulam Rasool, Fida Hussain and Haji Wahid Bux observed token hunger strike.
