HAMILTON (Bermuda), March 28: Bermuda's South Africa-born all-rounder Saleem Mukuddem has announced his retirement from all international cricket following the country's exit from 2007 World Cup.

Bermuda's most successful bowler in group-stage matches in Trinidad & Tobago, Mukuddem told coach Gus Logie of his decision to step down.

The 35-year-old captured his team's first wicket against Sri Lanka in their opening match and then returned superb figures of three for 19 off five overs in Sunday's defeat to Bangladesh.

Speaking after Bangladesh match, he said he had been motivated by his earlier omission.

“I was extremely fired up as I felt I needed to prove a point for missing out last match (against India). I wanted to come to World Cup and leave my mark for people to remember me by,” Mukuddem added.

Another senior member of the squad, wicket-keeper Dean Minors, indicated he would also be retiring soon.—Agencies
