KARACHI, March 28: The Karachi City Cricket Association (KCCA) has urged the Pakistan Cricket Board to conduct an inquiry into Pakistan’s diabolical performance in the ongoing World Cup in the West Indies.

The KCCA’s executive council, which met at the National Stadium late on Tuesday with its president Dr Muhammad Ali Shah in the chair, expressed dismay at the pathetic performance of the national team that ultimately resulted in its elimination in the preliminary round of the mega event.

The council felt that the apprehensions of cricket pundits expressed before World Cup proved correct and the debacle is bound to have serious repercussions on the future of cricket in Pakistan.

The council has appealed to cricket fans of the country to spare the captain and members of Pakistan team from their wrath and as they were not entirely responsible for this debacle. “These cricketers are our national heroes who are equally upset with this tragic loss in the World Cup,” the council observed.

The council was of the considered opinion that the continuation of ad-hocism in Pakistan cricket for the last eight years has played havoc with the progress of the game.

The council noted that Pakistan twice failed to reach the final rounds of World Cup in 2003 and 2007 since the PCB was run on an ad hoc basis.

It noted that apart dismal World Cup showing, the PCB was under constant threat in the wake of The Oval Test fiasco and the doping drama.

The council urged President Pervez Musharraf, who is the PCB’s Patron-in-chief, to take serious notice of excessive tours of cricket board officials and their ruthless spending of the public money without accountability

The council also appealed to President Musharraf to order revival of the PCB Constitution, Executive Council and General Body of the cricket board.

The council observed one minute silence as a mark of respect for the departed soul of Bob Woolmer and expressed its heartfelt condolences at the tragic demise of Pakistan coach.
