GUJRANWALA March 24: Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) director general Tariq Pervaiz said about 60,000 Pakistanis had been deported from various countries during the last three years while some 24,000, who emigrated illegally, were languishing in jails in foreign countries..
He was speaking at a seminar organised jointly by an NGO and FIA passport cell on ‘The role of social welfare organisations for curbing human smuggling’ on Saturday.
He said 99 per cent people were arrested on the borders while trying to cross into foreign countries with help of human smugglers. Only one per cent people go abroad by air on forged passports and other documents.
He said 250 peoples were arrested and deported by Spain this year while more than 500 Pakistanis were still stranded there.
The representatives of different social welfare organisations and Gujranwala passport cell deputy director Husain Asghar also spoke.
SUSPENDED: Six officials of highway patrol were suspended from service on the charge of arresting gunmen and private secretary to federal parliamentary secretary Bilal Ijaz on Naushera Virkan Road on Saturday.
MNA’s private secretary Pervaiz Ahmad and official gunmen were on their way when highway patrol arrested them near Artali Virkan police post and snatched Rs1,000 in cash. Mr Pervaiz informed the MNA about the situation who complained to the DIG patrolling. The SP reached the spot and released the arrested gunman and suspended post in charge Sub-Inspector Khurram Shahzad Cheema, ASI Shahzad Ahmad and four constables from service and ordered in inquiry against them.
SPURIOUS FOOD: Three members of a family, including two girls, fainted after taking spurious breakfast here on Saturday.
Munir Ahmad and his daughters Ghulnaz, 16, and Tahira, 13, took breakfast and fainted. They were hastened to the DHQ hospital where their conditions were stated to be serious.
BAIL: The anti-terrorism court No 1 on Saturday allowed bail to three Ghakkhar Town violence case accused Shahzad Dadu, Khawar Latif and Babar Latif.
The court directed them to provide surety bonds worth Rs50,000 each.
According to prosecution, they attacked shopkeepers of main bazaar and blocked the GT Road in protest against the arrest of ruling party member Zahid Butt in a criminal case.
