KARACHI, March 22: Justice Rana Bhagwandas was on Thursday appointed the Acting Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. A notification issued by the federal law ministry said: “In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 180 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the President is pleased to appoint Mr Justice Rana Bhagwandas, the most-senior judge of the Supreme Court, to act as the Chief Justice of Pakistan with effect from the date he resumes his office.”

Justice Bhagwandas will be sworn in at the Supreme Court registry here at 10:30am on Saturday by the next senior judge, Justice Javed Iqbal, the incumbent ACJ, who is due to reach Karachi from Quetta. Several SC judges from the principal seat and other registries and the chief justice and judges of the Sindh High Court will attend the ceremony.
