HYDERABAD, March 21: Anjuman Tuleba-i-Islam (ATI), student wing of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan, a member of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, has accused the alliance of hypocrisy and said that it has been performing the role of "B-team" of the government.

Speaking at a news conference at the press club on Wednesday, ATI President Dr Azhar Mehmood said that the MMA had entered into a bargain with the rulers at the time of the passage of 17th constitutional amendment.

He said had the MMA been sincere, its members would have resigned en masse from the assemblies on the issue of the Women’s Protection Act.

Dr Mehmood said that the government had usurped the rights of the students and distorted the Islamic identity of Pakistan through the establishment of Aga Khan Education Board and deleting the chapters on Islam from the textbooks.

He alleged that vulgarity was being promoted in the educational institutions.

He said that to protect the ideology of Pakistan and promote Islamic values, the ATI had launched a country-wide movement.
