MPA granted bail

OKARA, March 19: An anti-terrorism court of Lahore on Monday granted bail to district PPP president and MPA Ashraf Sohna and trader Arshad. They were reportedly brought to Lahore from Sahiwal prison and were asked to file two surety bonds worth Rs50,000 each.

Regarding other two cases registered under Section 188 PPC and MPO 16 against them, their counsel filed bail applications before a civil judge who issued notice for production of record on Tuesday (today).

They were arrested about a week ago for creating law and order situation on the occasion of Chehlum of Hazrat Iman Husain.

ESCAPE BID: A convict undergoing life term escaped from police custody when he was being taken to a court in connection with a narcotics case.

Convict Imran of Nankana was undergoing life imprisonment in the Sahiwal Central Jail. He was brought to Okara for attending proceedings in a drug case registered by Okara Saddar police.

He tried to escape with handcuffs on way to the court but overpowered by Constable Iqbal. The convict gave the cop a blow on his nose but the policeman did not let him go. — Correspondent
