KARACHI, March 16: A major fault in the PTCL optic fibre caused suspension of telephone service in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Old Sabzi Mandi and University Road for many hours on Friday.

A PTCL spokesman said the optic fibre cable passing through a manhole on Rashid Minhas Road was burnt accidentally 9.45am. The staff rushed to the area and controlled the fire. The spokesman said while restoration work was in progress, a second optical fibre was cut by a KWSB contractor near Old Sabzi Mandi on University Road at 12.10pm resulting in service disruption. He said the PTCL engineers restored service within 50 minutes.

He also said that authorities were investigating the incidents.
