4 hurt in roof collapse

LAHORE, March 15: Four people, including a woman, were injured when the rain-affected roof of a single-room house collapsed on them in Rana Town in Hanjarwal on Thursday.

Rescue 1122 sources said that two laborers were pouring mud on the roof of Ejaz’s house when it caved in after it got softened during the recent spell of rain. Ejaz, 50, his wife Nagina, 35, and two labourers Nasir Javed, 22, and Faryad, 22, trapped under the debris and injured. The area people pulled them out from the rubble. The Rescue 1122 rushed the injured to Jinnah Hospital.

FIRE: Two workers were injured when a fire broke out in a printing press on Empress Road on Thursday evening.

The Feroz Sons Printing Press owned by Saqib Islam caught fire at 7pm when some employees were busy in work. Saleem and Iqbal sustained minor burn injuries.

Fire fighters reached the spot and extinguished the fire. Qila Gujjar Singh police did not confirm the injuries.

SHOT DEAD: A young man was shot dead by his cousin over a minor dispute at Sitara Colony II in Factory Area here on Thursday.

Police said Karamat Ali, 23, and Ejaz Ahmed of the same area were arguing on some trifle when their tempers flared up. Ejaz left the place and later came with a pistol and shot dead Karamat in front of his house. The police removed the body to the morgue.

A case has been registered against the accused.

SUICIDE: A mother of four children committed suicide after taking some poisonous substance in Shahdara on Thursday.

Police said Perveen, 40, was living with her children near Machis Factory after her husband had left the family. Apparently poverty and some domestic issue led her to take extreme step, the police said. The body was removed to the city mortuary.

KILLED: A cart driver, Mubarik, was killed when a bus ran him over at Sanda Stop in Islampura on Thursday.
