Police kill PO in ‘encounter’

SHEIKHUPURA, March 15: City A division police claimed to have shot dead an alleged proclaimed offender and injured his accomplice in an encounter in Iqbal Park on Thursday morning.

Police said the proclaimed offender, identified later as Javed, and his co-accused Khalil, were going to Sargodha Road after robbing motorcyclists Riaz and Zulfiqar. A police patrol signaled them to stop. The fleeing outlaws opened fire on police. The police returned the fire and injured both the criminals. They were admitted to the DHQ hospital where Javed succumbed to his injuries while the condition of Khalil was stated be serious.

Police claimed that they were involved in around a dozen highway robbery, dacoity and theft incidents, and wanted by the Sheikhupura and Farooqabad police.

Police have recovered stolen goods besides sophisticated weapons from the possession of the criminals.

Show cause notices: Nankana DCO Capt Fazeel Asghar (retired) paid a surprise visit to many schools and issued show-cause notices to the teachers who were absent from their duties on Thursday.

The DCO directed the teachers to perform their duties honestly and ensure their arrival in schools in time otherwise strict action would be taken against them.

He said the teachers could play a vital role in promoting standard of education.

He advised students to respect their teachers and devote their energies in study.

The DCO paid visits to various government schools after receiving several complaints filed by the parents of the students regarding absence of teachers.
