PESHAWAR, March 15: Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal president Qazi Hussain Ahmad has said that tussle between President General Pervez Musharraf and the judiciary is leaving a negative impact on the army.

Talking to journalists at Al Markaz-i-Islami after attending an multy-party conference on Wednesday, he said the military was suffering in the standoff between Gen Musharraf and the judiciary.

He urged the nation to support non-functional Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry and observe a complete strike on Friday.

He said that all segments of society, including traders and transporters, should participate in the countrywide strike.

Qazi Hussain said that the government had set worst example of lawlessness by manhandling the chief justice of Pakistan.

He said that Gen Musharraf was trying to subjugate the judiciary.

The MPC was attended by the ANP, PML-N and representatives of lawyer bodies, transport and trader organisations.

It passed a unanimous resolution calling upon President Gen Pervez Musharraf to resign from offices of the president and army chief in the larger interest of the country.

The conference termed the formation of the Supreme Judicial Council as unconstitutional and pointed out that under the Constitution the president could not suspend the chief justice.
