VEHARI, Oct 19: Two persons were shot dead here on Friday in what seems to be targeted killings.

According to details, Ahmad Yar Khichi, uncle of PML’s suspended MNA Dilawar Khan Khichi and suspended district Nazim Mumtaz Khan Khichi, was on his way to Vehari after buying crop seeds from Khanewal when four armed people in a car (LHX-6337) opened fire on him near Wijhyan Wala stop, on the Khanewal Road. He died on the spot while his driver sustained injuries. The injured was taken to the Multan Nishtar Hospital.

The same gang later shot dead Tehrik-i-Jaffria scholar Nazir Ahmad Abbas when he was in his shop in Chak 62/WB on the same road, some five kilometres from here.

Police are investigating.

RALLY: Hundreds of activists of religious parties on Friday took out a protest rally after the Juma prayers to condemn atrocities of the US against Afghanistan.

Starting from the Pakistan Chowk, the protesters marched through various roads, chanting slogans against the government’s act of removing JUI camps in the district which were set up to collect donations for the Afghans.

BANK DEFAULTER: A defaulter of the Agriculture Development Bank of Pakistan (ADBP) on Friday escaped from the District Headquarters Hospital during treatment.

As per details, a team arrested Syed Khadim Husain Shah who owed Rs700,000 to the bank. On Friday, he complained of a pain in the chest in the team’s custody and he was admitted to the DHQ hospital. The team had reportedly deployed two security guards in the hospital. However, he fled in their presence after 2pm.

Police have registered a case against the accused.
