DERA ISMAIL KHAN, March 10: Two people were killed and two others injured in separate incidents in the city, increasing the death toll in sectarian violence to four during the last three days, police said.

Police and paramilitary forces were conspicuous by their presence and the city was in chaos due to target killings and firing incidents. Angry protesters blocked roads and burnt tyres in different parts of the city. Roads were presenting a deserted look.

The Cantonment police said an employee of Wapda, Safdar Hussain, was shot dead in the Mesgiran bazaar and a shopkeeper, Mohammad Aslam, was injured in Basti Nad Ali Shah on Saturday.

Witnesses said retired army officer Munir Hussain was killed on Friday night. Motorbike riders shot at and injured a government employee, Khalid, in a college ground. He was shifted to a local hospital.

Police have registered separate FIRs of the incidents against unidentified people.

Police and the Frontier Constabulary have set up makeshift checkpoints in sensitive areas of the city. An official of the Cantonment police said the situation was under control and troops were patrolling the streets.

AFP adds: Mr Safdar was buying milk from a shop in the main market when he was attacked by two gunmen on a motorbike, local police officer Aslam Khattak said. Mr Munir was attacked when he was returning home, Mr Khattak said.
