HYDERABAD, Feb 22: A monitoring committee, comprising education officials and teachers, will be appointed to improve the educational system.

This was decided at a meeting between the Sindh secretary for education and office-bearers of the Sindh Professor and Lecturers Association (SPLA).

According to the SPLA, it was also decided to hold refresher courses for the college teachers in collaboration with the ministry of education and Sindh University.

The secretary for education, Nazar Hussain Mahar, and SPLA leaders discussed a 14-point memorandum.

It was also decided that the Sindh cabinet would be moved to review its policy with regards to the privatization of the educational institutions.

The other decisions included separation of seniority of government and nationalized cadres, adequate provision in the colleges for teaching information technology and holding of annual examination of IT in 2003.

The secretary agreed to fill in 42 vacancies in grade 20 and issue a notification in this regard up to March 31, 2002.

It was also agreed that 1014 post of college teachers would be filled through the public service commission.
